C3EN Pilot Awardee Saria Lofton and public health consultant Barbara (Lucy) Peterson advocate for the expansion of food-is-medicine programs through Medicaid in “Food-is-medicine programs can improve health, reduce food insecurity,” in the Chicago Sun-Times on June 23, 2023. Lofton, an assistant professor and health disparities nurse researcher at the UIC College of Nursing, is currently working on a project implementing food-is-medicine programs for obese, hypertensive Black women in two Chicago communities with the support of a C3EN Pilot Award.
