C3EN Is Collecting Donations for Erie Neighborhood House
C3EN is collecting donations for Erie Neighborhood House, which supports immigrant and low-income families in Chicago. Please drop donations off at our Rush office at 1645 W. Jackson Blvd!
C3EN Minigrant Awardee: Daniel Schober
I see community health workers as a vital link between the health system and local communities. This C3EN minigrant has given me the opportunity to explore these factors more deeply and consider how CHW’s can promote use of government benefits and educate local people about how to use these benefits to best support their health.
C3EN Pilot Awardee Saria Lofton in the Sun-Times
C3EN Pilot Awardee Saria Lofton and public health consultant Barbara (Lucy) Peterson advocate for the expansion of food-is-medicine programs through Medicaid in “Food-is-medicine programs can improve health, reduce food insecurity,” in the Chicago Sun-Times on June 23, 2023.
Humans of Chicago: Aaliyah Christina
I would love for the police budget to disintegrate. I would love for people to be fed every day. I would love for housing to be secure and affordable for everyone. Luxuries should be luxuries, and necessities should be available no matter what. I would love to get healthcare for myself and everybody who needs it.
CSAC Member Highlight: Danielle Lazar
In a city like Chicago, we have some of the best institutions and community organizations in the country doing incredible work. The CSAC provides an opportunity to bring that together to solve problems.
C3EN Pilot Awardee: Victoria Lee
“No one is going to die from sinus disease. It’s just annoying: they can’t smell, they can’t taste, they can’t breathe. Treatment is really about working with patients to improve their quality of life.”
C3EN Team Member Highlight: Megan Huisingh-Scheetz
I think it is truly our responsibility to maximize the use of the tools we have been fortunate to receive to make the world a better place and especially to elevate those who did not get the same tools that we did.
Chicago Health Equity Alignment Summit brings Community Members and Researchers Together to Discuss Health Disparities on June 6
On June 6, 2023, West Side United and C3EN partnered to present the Chicago Health Equity Alignment Summit at Malcolm X College
Join C3EN at the Gospel Run on September 9!
C3EN is excited to participate in this year's Gospel Run! The 5K run, 5K walk, and Half Mile Kids Run will take place on September 9, 2023 at 39th Street Beach in Chicago. Join our team, organized by Amber Deckard -- and see you there!
Community Action Spotlight: Market Box Chicago
One lesson from Market Box is how insufficient our existing systems of benefits are. Fifty percent of the people Market Box delivers to qualify for some form of aid—SNAP or Medicaid or Medicare—but 86% of the people we deliver to say that Market Box is very important to their household having enough food to eat.
C3EN Minigrant Awardee: Dedeepya Konuthula
I’m interested in how we can communicate with families both inside and outside the clinic about the issue of cardiometabolic risk in a way that promotes healthy behavior change without centering weight and reinforcing weight stigma.
